The Senior Director, Business Continuity Planning is a pivotal leadership role within Optus’ Network Operations and Assurance function, reporting directly to the Vice President of Network Operations. This position is responsible for safeguarding the continuity of Optus’ critical telecommunications infrastructure—including mobile, fixed, and IP networks—ensuring service availability, maintaining customer trust, and meeting regulatory requirements. With oversight of resilience planning across data centres, exchanges, and field operations, the role drives the strategy, governance, and execution of business continuity planning, disaster recovery exercises, and failover testing to ensure operational readiness across a geographically diverse network.
As the principal advisor on continuity risks, emerging threats, and mitigation strategies, the Senior Director partners closely with Technology, Risk, and Operations teams to embed resilience at every level of the business. The role will also establish and lead a dedicated team of continuity specialists, ensuring Optus builds and sustains an industry-leading capability. Beyond network operations, this position plays a critical role in aligning Optus’ continuity strategy with enterprise-wide resilience efforts, including cyber security and critical infrastructure protection, ensuring Optus remains trusted, reliable, and prepared for the future.
The day to day

-Develop and maintain robust business continuity and crisis management strategies across critical Optus systems and operations.
-Facilitate multi-functional planning, scenario testing, and failover exercises to validate organisational readiness.
-Review, audit, and uplift continuity processes against regulatory obligations, ISO standards, and Optus-specific risks.
-Identify gaps and drive targeted improvements, ensuring scalable and consistent BCM practices across Networks.
-Partner with Cybersecurity, Risk, Technology, and external business partners to align continuity with enterprise resilience and critical infrastructure priorities.
-Report on continuity maturity, incident readiness, and compliance to senior leadership, while leading awareness, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

-Relevant qualifications in Business/Engineering with BCP and ITIL certifications.
-Extensive senior leadership experience in large-scale network or service operations.

-Solid grasp of Australian and international standards for network and information resilience.
-Outstanding leadership, emotional intelligence, and ability to lead diverse teams in crisis.
-Sophisticated communication and influencing skills, including engagement with executive stakeholders.
