ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an Analyst to join our Corporate Development team on a Full-Time basis reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Development.
This role offers broad exposure across various lines of business within the organization.
As part of the team, you will conduct timely, accurate, and in-depth research and business analysis, along with financial modeling, to support key growth initiatives under evaluation. You will play an role in the screening and assessment of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. Additionally, you will provide financial analysis to support decision-making within the Corporate Development group.
This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE

-Conduct market research to identify strategic development opportunities across North America.
-Support project teams in preparing presentation materials and reports for senior management.
-Assist with transaction-related activities, including data room management, Q&A coordination, and cross-functional due diligence efforts.
-Perform ad hoc analyses, including building financial models and evaluating business trends to support growth initiatives.
-Prepare bid packages, proposal letters, project overviews, and presentation decks for internal and external stakeholders.
-Provide financial analysis and modeling support for M&A activities, including the creation and maintenance of screening-level and detailed financial models throughout the project lifecycle.
-Ensure financial model inputs are reviewed and approved by the sponsoring project manager.
-Deliver accurate assessments of the corporate impact of investment decisions to support strategic planning at TransAlta.
ABOUT YOU
Education & Background
style="margin-top:0.0cm;margin-bottom:0.0cm"-
-Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
-2–4 years of experience in corporate strategy, planning, or financial analysis.
-Prior experience in M&A or investment banking is preferred.
-Interest in pursuing, or currently working toward, a CFA designation.
Technical Skills

-Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
-Experience with programming languages such as VBA or Python.
-Strong familiarity with large datasets and database environments; proficiency in SQL is highly desirable.

-Solid financial background with a strong grasp of financial analysis principles, key value-driving metrics, mergers and acquisitions, greenfield development, and financial statement interpretation.
-Familiarity with valuation methodologies and financial performance indicators.
-Experience in building and working with financial spreadsheet models.
-Understanding of electricity market fundamentals and dynamics.
-Knowledge of TransAlta’s assets, operational processes, and strategic direction.
