Department Summary

The Compensation team at Ole Miss, part of the Human Resources division, leads the university’s efforts in fair, competitive, and transparent pay practices. We manage job classification, salary structures, and career tracks to support employee growth and organizational effectiveness.

We work closely with university leadership and HR Business Partners across departments to ensure compensation practices meet institutional goals and needs.

The department led the launch a full redesign of the staff compensation and classification system—introducing clear job families, levels, and career pathways for over 500 staff roles. No employee received a pay cut under View2022, reflecting a strong commitment to fairness. We align with the university’s "Empower Now" strategic plan and continuously benchmarks against peer institutions.

Role Summary

Supports the development and  implementation of compensation, market, and titling analysis for the institution in alignment with institutional goals on total compensation.

Responsibilities:

-Evaluate and classify positions within the university’s compensation structure
-Administer salary offers, compensation and classification adjustments
-Conduct market benchmarking 
-Ensure compliance with FLSA and university compensation policies
-Prepare reports and maintain compensation data in HR systems
-Advise departments and HR partners on job classification and pay decisions
-Train and support stakeholders on compensation tools and guidelines

Unique Projects;

The Compensation team with lead an upcoming project that's goal is to redesign the faculty compensation and classification system. 

Examples of Work Performed
-Reviews and analyzes job descriptions and submitted questionnaires to determine appropriate classification, job level, and salary grade based on the university compensation structure.
-Evaluates and processes salary offers, promotions, adjustments, and reclassification requests in alignment with internal guidelines and market data.
-Conducts compensation benchmarking salary surveys
-Maintains and updates job profiles and pay data within the HRIS system, ensuring accuracy and consistency across job families and pay structures.
-Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., FLSA) and university compensation policies; provides audit support as needed.
-Prepares compensation reports, dashboards, and analyses to support HR leadership, budget planning, and strategic decision-making.
-Advises HR Business Partners, hiring managers, and departmental leaders on classification decisions, salary guidelines, and compensation best practices.
-Supports and participates in the implementation of compensation projects and university-wide initiatives, including training and communication efforts.

Essential Functions

-Provides professional assistance and consultation services in administering and maintaining pay policies and programs for employees. 
-Evaluates and classifies positions; assists in the evaluation of organizational needs and market trends; and assists in the development of new or enhanced job families and/or compensation programs as needed. 
-Assist in Administering and Maintaining Pay Policies and Programs.
-Participate in salary surveys and provide reports based on salary data.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree 

Substitution Statement: An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.

Preferred Qualifications

-HR/Compensation experience in a higher education setting
-CCP Certification
