Department Summary

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life seeks a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Associate Director to support the fraternity and sorority community. Under the supervision of the Direction, the Associate Director serves as the second-in-command for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL), overseeing daily operations of a community comprised of 35 organizations and nearly 10,000 members,  supervising four professional staff, and advancing the strategic mission of the fraternity and sorority community. Additionally, the Associate Director acts as a key liaison to the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, integrating education, risk reduction, and conduct compliance into the holistic support of student organizations.

Role Summary

The Associate Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing the strategic vision of a vibrant and values-based Greek community. Reporting to the Director, this position provides critical oversight for office operations, staff supervision, and community engagement while serving as a key liaison to campus partners and student leaders.

The role requires strong leadership, and supervision skills, with deep expertise in fraternity and sorority life programming and operations. Key strengths include understanding of conflict resolution, student conduct processes, harm reduction and wellness education, and stakeholder collaboration with the ability to develop student leaders and foster a safe, and values-driven community.

Examples of Work Performed

Key Responsibilities:
1. Office & Staff Leadership
•    Support the Director in advancing strategic priorities, overseeing office operations, and executing the vision for Fraternity & Sorority Life.
•    Supervise, train, and evaluate 3 Assistant Directors, who oversee the graduate assistants.
•    Assist in leading internal staff meetings, fostering team development, and providing guidance on complex community issues.
2. Council & Chapter Oversight
•    Oversee the advising structure for governing councils and chapters, ensuring consistency and support across all communities (IFC, CPH, NPHC, etc.).
•    Act as a secondary advisor and escalation point for student leadership, conduct issues, and crisis response.
•    Assist in the planning and execution of community-wide events such as recruitment/intake, large scale events, and leadership retreats.
3. Liaison to Student Organizations & Conduct Offices
•    Serve as the primary liaison between FSL and the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, ensuring smooth communication, and coordination of student organization conduct cases.
•    Provide guidance to student organizations on community standards, conflict resolution, and conduct expectations.
•    Support leadership development aimed at fostering positive group dynamics and ethical decision-making.
4. Support for Mediation Agreements & Conflict Resolution
•    Participate in committees for chapters or organizations engaged in mediation agreements following conduct incidents.
•    Collaborate with organizational leadership and university stakeholders to ensure compliance with agreements, provide conflict resolution support, and uphold university values.
5. Harm Reduction Education
•    Develop, implement, and lead comprehensive hazing prevention programs for student organizations, with special emphasis on fraternities, sororities, and other high-risk groups.
•    Design and deliver harm and risk reduction education, including alcohol and drug education, event management, and mental health awareness.
•    Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and belonging through proactive educational efforts.
6. Compliance & Data Reporting
•    Collect, analyze, and report data related to conduct cases, hazing incidents, and risk management efforts to support Clery Act and Stop Campus Hazing Act compliance.
•    Prepare regular reports for university leadership, demonstrating transparency, and accountability within the student organization community.
7. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
•    Collaborate across departments including Student Conduct, Title IX, Housing, Counseling, and General Counsel to address student organization challenges.
•    Assist in crisis management and post-incident support.
8. Budget & Resource Oversight
•    Support the Director in managing office and council budgets, ensuring responsible resource allocation.
•    Guide Assistant Directors in overseeing financial management within student councils and chapters.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Plans and executes one or multiple student programs, activities and/or services.
2. Evaluates and promotes existing strategies and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program enhancement.
3. Contributes to the design of a suite of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
4. Resolves questions and issues escalated by individual students and groups using discretion beyond established guidelines.
5. Monitors the program budget and approves expenditures.
6. Supervises the day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and resolves routine personnel issues.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: (3) Three Years Experience including supervisory experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

•    Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel or relatable field
•    (5) Five Years professional fraternity and sorority advising experience.
•    Strong knowledge of fraternity and sorority life systems, student conduct processes, and risk management.
•    Experience with mediation, conflict resolution, and restorative practices in a higher education setting.
•    Commitment to student development.
•    Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and crisis management skills.
