Role Overview: 

The Veteran Care Response Coordinator is a crucial member of the Suicide Prevention Team.  The position is dedicated to enhancing crisis response and intervention strategies within community coalitions and local nonprofits. This role involves orchestrating crisis intercept mapping and organizing specialized crisis intervention team training. The coordinator will serve as a liaison, providing thorough information and initial informational training about the Family and Social Services Administration's (FSSA) Crisis Intervention and Postvention Grant programs. Collaborating closely with the Department of Family and Social Services, the Coordinator ensures that Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) are equipped with the necessary resources and information to deliver effective services, focusing on the Indiana Military and Veteran Community. A key aspect of this role is fostering partnerships with the Star Behavioral Health certification program to guarantee military-connected communities have access to superior behavioral health care. The position requires close collaboration with the Indiana National Guard's Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce team to deliver tailored crisis intervention programming and access to essential resources for INNG members and their families. Through these efforts, the Suicide Intervention Coordinator significantly contributes to the overall well-being and resilience of military and veteran communities across Indiana. Experience working with Medicaid is highly preferred. 

Salary Statement: 

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

Responsibilities:

Crisis Intervention:

-Collaboration with the INNG Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce team to deliver tailored crisis intervention for members and families.
-Cultivate and maintain a network of crisis intervention resources, such as hotlines, support groups, and emergency services, to ensure timely assistance for at-risk veterans.
-Foster relationships with Indiana’s community crisis intervention team, cultivating a network based on best practices.
-Establish IDVA as the central hub for identifying and contacting crisis intervention teams statewide.
-Research and catalog community crisis intervention programs statewide.

Outreach and Education:

-Organize and participate in outreach to CCBHCs, Community Coalitions, and Indiana nonprofits, and the INNG, with a focus on crisis intervention and resource access.
-Connect CCBHCs and community mental health providers to IDVA’s County Veteran Service Officers (CVSO).
-Coordinate outreach and resource accessibility protocols with the Indiana National Guard's Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce tailored to the INNG community.
-Attend community outreach events for military, veterans, and their families to raise awareness of the ICC Crisis Intervention initiative.
-Organize and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars on prevention, intervention, postvention, and benefits at INNG armories.
-Implement the ICC comprehensive suicide Intervention strategy tailored to the needs of Indiana’s military/veteran community.
-Organize and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars on crisis intervention and military culture training for community partners.
-Create and distribute educational materials, including brochures, flyers, and digital content, to promote awareness of CCBHCs and community crisis intervention.

Collaboration and Partnership:

-Collaboration with the INNG Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce team to deliver access to resources and services focused on the military-connected community.
-Act as IDVA’s liaison to the INNG Soldier and Family Readiness Centers and provide resource and ICC program support.
-Collaborate with healthcare providers, mental health professionals, and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive support for the military/veteran communities.
-Establish IDVA SMS partnerships with CCBHCs.

Data Collection and Analysis:

-Collect data related to the military/veteran community and mental health trends from community agencies, resources, and partners that track the data.
-Report all data, community resources, and partnership activity in the ICC reporting system.
-Prepare presentations for IDVA leadership and stakeholders on the effectiveness of suicide upstream prevention initiatives.

Community Engagement:

-Engage with the veteran community through public forums, social media, and other platforms to foster a supportive environment, gather data, and provide resources.
-Develop programming with the INNG and community coalitions to encourage veterans and their families to participate in screenings, mental health, and wellness programs.

Internal Engagement:

-Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in suicide prevention to continuously improve the ICC strategies.
-Identify and provide ongoing training and support for IDVA staff to enhance their ability to identify and assist at-risk veterans.
-Organize and facilitate training sessions on crisis intervention for IDVA staff.
What You'll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either  

-a Master’s Degree with 1+ years of experience, or  
-a Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of experience, or  
-a Associate’s Degree with 5+ years of experience, or 
-at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. 
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

-Specialized knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and/or education. 
-Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.
-Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.
-Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications.
-Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
-The ability general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
-Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
-Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
-Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
-Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
-Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
